Being among the main soccer competitions of Portugal, Taca de Portugal is also well-known outside the respective country. And that’s no wonder — many fans want to see the notorious Portuguese soccer giants in action. However, the Portuguese Cup also allows the amateur clubs to try themselves in the matches against the first division teams. That makes the competition even stronger and more unpredictable.

The current Taca de Portugal schedule offers you a lot of interesting matches to bet on. Use our soccer odds today, and bet with YesPlay! Let yourself feel the excitement of football betting, and don’t miss a chance to win extra money.

Portuguese Cup format

A total of 144 clubs partake in the competition. The season usually begins in August or September and lasts up to May or June. The teams from the top 4 divisions of the Portuguese soccer pyramid are eligible for the competition. However, all the participants enter the tournament on different stages.

In the first round, there are 112 teams involved. These are the members of the Campeonato de Portugal (3rd tier) and several regional leagues (4th tier). They play single-legged Portugal Cup fixtures in pairs, with extra time and penalty series defining the winner in case of a tie. All the winners of the 1st round advance to the round II. However, some losers with the notable Portuguese Cup results also proceed to the next round. These are the so-called ‘repechage teams’.

The second round sees the LigaPro teams joining the competition, while the Primeira clubs enter the competition on the 3rd round. After that, there are no new entrants at all. Only 32 teams with the best Portuguese Cup results remain in the competition for the 4th round. In the 5th round, there are only 16 participants.

After the following stages of the tournament (the quarter- and semi-finals), the Portugal Cup final decides the winner. The final is single-legged, just like all the other fixtures of the competition (except for the semis, which are double-legged).
